Description
The Stool E60 by Artek is a timeless classic, which can integrate into any furniture environment as a stool or side table without problem.
The four-legged Stool E60 was designed by Alvar Aalto and, like its three-legged brother (Stool 60), is an icon of furniture design. Aalto’s stackable stools were presented for the first time in 1933, being revolutionary for not being made of classic steel, instead bent solid birch veneer, just how Artek also makes them today.
The well-known L-shape that can be found in nearly every object that Alvar Aalto has designed is also seen in this stool. At the time, people were impressed by the bending process used, which, still today, involves a straight piece of solid birch being sawn open in grain direction, in order to make a fan. Small pieces of timber were then glued together to enable bending the wood through heating, after which the wood remains stable.
The timeless Stool E60 by Artek is made of birch wood and is available with transparent, black or white varnish. Additionally, the stool is available with a seating surface made of white laminate, black linoleum or with fabric or leather upholstery.
