Chair Made from Birch Veneer

The Finnish designer and architect Alvar Aalto is considered the pioneer of plywood processing. Influenced by the German Bauhaus, he had been experimenting with this material since 1927 and, together with his wife Aino Aalto, created numerous designs. The design for the no. 65 chair was made between 1933 and 1935.

Despite its early development, the chair has lost none of its charm today and, like almost all Aalto products, has the classic organic L-shape. The chair legs are bent and then covered with birch veneer. The bending technique specially developed by Aalto for this purpose caused great sensation during this time and has to this day been unparalleled in terms of stability.

Thanks to its simple, Nordic shape, the chair fits perfectly into any environment and can be used as a comfortable seat both at the dining table or at the desk.
